buildingSMART International- This is the home for all buildingSMART activities worldwide - Deke Smith was on the Executive Committee for 7 years until the United States no longer had a buildingSMART International chapter at the end of 2014 for failure to pay annual dues for two years.
buildingSMART Data Dictionary - This buildingSMART International project is the primary point for definitions and understanding the relationships between various terms. This is a critical element for BIM. Not only does it provide terminology for many languages, but it also identifies the synonyms used in the industry to help find things in models. If one queries for CMU, but the object was entered as concrete block or concrete masonry unit the dictionary will help link the terms together. It is also extremely important for identifying how terms are used during different phases of a project. It fully supports IFC and OmniClass.
buildingSMART Global BIM Guide Wiki- This tool is a compendium of all known guides and standards world wide important to collaboration and BIM. It identifies documents and provides metadata in international english identifying how the guide or standard is used. The goal is to have three independant reviews of the usability of the document to help ensure a non-propritary information is made available. It is hoped that by refering to this site a lot of duplication can be avoided and the body of knowledge moved forward more quickly.
